Customs Seize Gold Worth Rs.1.13 Crore at Ahmedabad Airport, Tour Operator Held

AHMEDABAD : In a major crackdown on gold smuggling, the Customs Department at Ahmedabad Airport seized 770.33 grams of gold worth over ₹1.13 crore from a passenger who arrived on a flight from Abu Dhabi. The operation has also led to the arrest of a tour operator allegedly involved in running an illegal gold smuggling network.

The passenger came under scrutiny after Customs officials noticed suspicious behaviour during routine surveillance. A detailed search led to the recovery of the smuggled gold, which has an estimated international market value exceeding ₹1.13 crore.

During preliminary questioning, investigators allegedly uncovered the role of a tour operator who was using ordinary passengers to transport gold into India illegally.

“The investigation has revealed the involvement of a tour operator in facilitating the smuggling of gold through passengers. Further inquiries are underway to identify others linked to the network,” Customs officials said.

Following the revelation, Customs officers arrested the tour operator and launched a wider investigation to trace the entire smuggling syndicate and its international connections.

Officials said further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing probe, as efforts continue to dismantle the network behind the illegal gold trafficking operation.
