Bharuch : The Narmada sessions court has dismissed a plea from Chaitar Vasava, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Gujarat Working President and Dediapada MLA, seeking amendments to his bail conditions. Vasava is the INDI Bloc candidate for the Bharuch Lok Sabha constituency. The court’s decision to uphold the existing restrictions, barring Chaitar from entering his home district of Narmada, underscores the complexities surrounding his ongoing legal battle and political aspirations.

The prosecution, advocating for the preservation of the existing bail conditions, contended that modern technological advancements enabled Chaitar to campaign remotely via electronic media without physically traversing his constituency. Principal Sessions Judge NR Joshi echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the efficacy of digital campaigning in the contemporary political landscape.

In a ruling that reverberated through political circles, Principal Sessions Judge NR Joshi rebuffed Chaitar Vasava’s plea to modify his bail conditions, effectively prohibiting his entry into Narmada district, where his Assembly constituency of Dediapada is situated. The court’s decision, rooted in concerns over potential law and order disruptions and witness intimidation, underscores the gravity of the allegations leveled against the AAP leader.

Expressing apprehensions regarding potential law and order issues, the court highlighted recent provocative statements attributed to Chaitar, suggesting a risk of influencing or intimidating witnesses if he were to campaign in Dediapada and Sagbara areas. The court noted that Chaitar’s wife, who had also been granted bail, could effectively represent him in the constituency, thereby mitigating the need for his physical presence.

The court order, spanning eight pages, meticulously delineated Chaitar’s plea for modifying bail conditions and the prosecution’s steadfast opposition. Central to the court’s decision were the serious charges leveled against Chaitar, including allegations of extortion and assault on a forest officer. These accusations, detailed in an FIR lodged at Dediapada police station, underscore the legal complexities surrounding his case.

Chaitar, along with seven others, stands accused of abusing and assaulting forest officials, alongside firing a round in the air to intimidate the officer. Despite the grant of bail to all accused parties, the severity of the allegations has cast a shadow over Chaitar’s political ambitions, raising pertinent questions about his legal predicament and its ramifications on his electoral prospects.
