Surat : Rahul Gandhi, a Congress MP, will be at the Surat district and sessions court on March 23, when a judgement is expected in a criminal defamation case about his alleged “Modi surname” comment. All of the members of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) are camping out in Surat for Gandhi’s big welcome.

Purnesh Modi, a former BJP cabinet minister and MLA from Surat (West), filed a case against Rahul Gandhi, a Congress MP, for allegedly saying, “How come all the thieves have Modi as their last name?” Modi said that the controversial comment was made at a rally in Kolar, Karnataka, before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, and that it slandered the whole Modi community.

Last Friday, HH Varma, the chief judicial magistrate, finished hearing the final arguments from both sides and set March 23 as the date for making a decision.

Senior lawyer Kirit Panwala said, “The whole case has been heard, and the final date for the decision is set for March 23.” Rahul Gandhi will be in court on the day the case is decided.

Gandhi was in court for the last time in October 2021. He spoke and pleaded not guilty.

Darshan Naik, the general secretary of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), said, “Senior Congress leaders from all over the state are camping in Surat to get ready for Rahul Gandhi’s big arrival in Surat on March 23.” Gandhi will land at the Surat airport in the morning and drive straight to the Surat District and Sessions Court building in Athwalines. ”

Congress leaders, like the leader of the opposition in the Gujarat Assembly, Amit Chavda, Bharatsinh Solanki, Khedbrahma MLA Dr. Tushar Chaudhary, Vansda MLA Anant Patel, Congress in-charge in Gujarat Raghu Sharma, and other leaders are camping in Surat to get ready for the big welcome of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
