Surat (Gujarat) : RS Sodhi, managing director of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), an apex body of all Gujarat milk unions, was removed from the post with immediate effect following a board meeting held in Gandhinagar on Monday.

Sodhi has been with GCMMF-Amul Dairy for nearly four decades, rising from director to MD. In July 2022, Sodhi became the first dairy professional from the federation and the second from Gujarat’s dairy sector to be elected president of the nearly seven-decade-old Indian Dairy Association (IDA).

Prior to Sodhi, the late Dr. Verghese Kurian, known as the “Father of India’s White Revolution,” was the president of IDA from 1964 to 1965. Kurian, who was the general manager of Amul Dairy at the time, founded GCMMF in 1973, which markets dairy products under the brand name-Amul.

The reason for Sodhi’s dismissal is unknown, but a letter circulated on social media about the decision made at the GCMMF board meeting in Gandhinagar on Monday. GCMMF chairman Shamal Patel and vice-chairman Valamji Humbal signed a letter stating that Sodhi be removed as MD of GCMMF with immediate effect and that the charge be given to Jayant Mehta, the COO of Amul Dairy.
