Surat (Gujarat): Hasmukh Patel, the former chairman of Surat Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) Nagar Prathamik Shikshan Samiti (NPSS) courted a major controversy for posting the video of his vote for the BJP candidate on the VVPAT machine at the polling booth on his Facebook page on Thursday.

Hasmukh Patel, who is an active member of the BJP went to the polling booth and shot a video of the VVPAT machine after casting his vote for the BJP candidate. He posted the video on his FB account and appealed to the voters to vote for the BJP.

After the controversy, Hasmukh Patel deleted the post from his FB page fearing action from the Election Commission of India for violating the Election Code of Conduct by influencing the voters to exercise their franchise for a particular political party.

The political parties including Congress and AAP are yet to give any written complaint in this regard to the Election Commission for the violation of the Election Code by the BJP member.

When a news channel contacted Hasmukh Patel on the controversy, he said, “If there is a problem, I will delete the post from my Facebook account. I am a member of BJP and I posted the video. There was no ill intention”
