BJP Leader Aditya Upadhyay Arrested in Surat Rape Case

Surat, Gujarat –– In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves across the diamond city of Surat and Gujarat’s political circles, BJP Ward General Secretary Aditya Upadhyay has been arrested for the alleged rape of a 23-year-old woman. The incident has not only stirred public outrage but also led to the immediate suspension of the accused by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

According to police reports, the survivor—a resident of Ved Road—had gone out for a routine errand when she met Aditya Upadhyay, someone she had known previously. Posing as a concerned acquaintance, Aditya offered to take her for a drive to talk. What followed was a calculated and heinous crime.

While in the car, Aditya gave the girl a caffeinated drink laced with sedatives. Within moments, the victim began feeling semi-conscious. Seizing the opportunity, Aditya drove her to a hotel located in Jahangirpura. There, his associate Gaurav Singh Rajput was already waiting. Both men then allegedly took turns sexually assaulting the unconscious woman in the hotel room.

The horror didn’t end there. After the assault, the accused dropped the girl near her residence in the same semi-conscious state. Upon regaining full consciousness at home, the survivor bravely approached the police and lodged a detailed complaint about the ordeal.

Surat Police acted swiftly. Based on the survivor’s statement, they registered an FIR against both Aditya Upadhyay and Gaurav Singh Rajput. Within hours, both accused were taken into custody. Police are invoking stringent sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to gang rape and conspiracy.

What makes the incident particularly grave is the political position held by the main accused. Aditya was serving as the General Secretary of Ward No. 8 in the local BJP unit. Once the crime came to light, BJP Surat City President Paresh Patel took immediate action and announced Aditya’s suspension from the party.

Police sources revealed that the investigation is being carried out on a war footing. CCTV footage from the hotel, call records, and vehicle tracking data are being thoroughly analyzed. The police are also expected to seek remand of the accused to unearth further details and connections.

This disturbing case has reignited concerns over women’s safety in Gujarat and the moral accountability of political leaders.
