Bharuch | Gujarat — A gruesome double murder in Bharuch has sent shockwaves through the Dawoodi Bohra community, after a family dispute allegedly turned deadly in the Bohrawad and Kothi areas. A father-in-law reportedly attacked his daughter-in-law and her mother with a sharp-edged weapon, killing both before attempting suicide in a chilling sequence of violence that has left the city stunned.
According to police sources, the accused—Zainul Abbas Jhanorwala, father of Dr. Yusuf Jhanorwala—allegedly carried out the attack at two separate residences, targeting his daughter-in-law Alifiya Yusufbhai Jhanorwala and her mother Shahenazben Namakwala. Both women succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
After the killings, the accused reportedly attempted suicide by inflicting severe injuries on himself and is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU at Bharuch Civil Hospital.
DySP MM Ganguly confirmed the recovery of the bodies and said initial findings point towards a family dispute as the motive. “Prima facie, both women appear to have been murdered with a sharp weapon. The accused, believed to be the father-in-law, also attempted suicide. A detailed investigation is underway,” he said.
Police said the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Bharuch ‘B’ Division Police Station, where forensic teams and senior officers have been deployed to reconstruct the sequence of events. Investigators are also examining possible triggers behind the violent escalation.
Sources revealed that Dr. Yusuf Jhanorwala, a homeopathy practitioner running Burhani Clinic in Kothi, lives with his family and has two daughters. Authorities are probing whether long-standing domestic tensions may have contributed to the crime.
