Ahmedabad : Astral Foundation, the CSR arm of Astral Limited, marked National Girl Child Day with a unique initiative in Dholka, Gujarat. The event celebrated the spirit of girlhood and environmental consciousness by adopting Vasna Keliya village and pledging to plant 111 trees for every girl child born there.

The event was attended by Padma Shri Shyam Sunder Paliwal, a renowned environmentalist and champion for girl child empowerment. Jagruti Engineer, Director of Astral Foundation, felicitated Mr. Paliwal for his groundbreaking work in Piplantri village, Rajasthan, where the tradition of planting 111 trees for each girl child has flourished for over 30 years.

Inspired by Piplantri’s model, Astral Foundation adopted Vasna Keliya village, committing to plant 111 trees for each newborn girl child. This initiative aims to not only celebrate the birth of girls but also contribute to environmental sustainability by increasing the village’s green cover. Families in the village have collectively pledged to nurture the saplings until they mature, ensuring the long-term success of the project.

“National Girl Child Day is a crucial reminder of our responsibility to empower and protect girls,” said Ms. Engineer. “We are honored to have Mr. Paliwal join us in celebrating their spirit and launching this impactful initiative in Vasna Keliya. Through this project, we hope to create a greener and more equitable future for the girls and communities we serve.”

Paliwal expressed his appreciation for Astral Foundation’s commitment and their decision to adopt Vasna Keliya. He emphasized the importance of collective action and invited the village leaders to visit Piplantri to learn from their experience. “Ultimately, our focus should be on the holistic development of the village, where every girl child has the opportunity to thrive,” he stated.

The event also saw the screening of a short film produced by Astral Foundation in 2023. This film beautifully showcased the inspiring story of Piplantri and resonated deeply with the audience. The event served as a platform for dialogue and action, encouraging stakeholders, community leaders, and the public to work together towards a brighter future for girls and the environment.
