ASDC’s online courses in lockdown helped youths to upskill and find new jobs

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India] : The pandemic’s arrival in Gondia, Maharashtra, threw Gyati Nakhate’s plans into disarray. Gyati, a B.Com graduate from N.M.D College in Gondia, was unable to advance in her career due to the pandemic. However, Adani Skill Development Centre (ASDC) came to her aid. Instead of wasting time with her crafting tools and yoga mat like the rest of the world during the lockdown, she resolved not to sit at home and wait for the pandemic to pass. She enrolled in one of the short online courses offered at the centre to learn new skills, pursue her interests, and advance her career as a Domestic Data Entry Operator.

“I’m glad I did well in both the theory and practical exams.” ASDC presented me with a certificate, validating the completion of our training. “I got a job as a data entry operator with Cogent Services (D2H Videocon) in Gujarat immediately after the courses,” says Gyati, who now works from home and earns Rs 10,000 per month.

When the pandemic hit us all in March 2020, it was a period of uncertainty that made people feel like they were temporarily imprisoned. It was especially difficult for those nearing the end of their careers and attempting to change careers. The COVID-19 pandemic completely ruined their plans.

Gyati’s  fellow college alumni and Gondia resident,Sagar Bangre, too, had the chance to make the most of the lockdown period, thanks to ASDC. He took up the course in Domestic Data Entry Operator which prepared him to work on data entry work for various industries and enabled him to understand the concept of Information Technology, Basics of Computer and Data Entry.

The course involved modules on Introduction to IT & Computers, Data Entry & Typing Skills, Exploring Microsoft Office Applications, Data Entry Services, Work Management, Maintain Health, Safety & Security at work environment and Employability & Entrepreneurship Skills.

The story of Amit Khobragade, from Lakhegaonvillage in Gondiadistrict is also similar. He was faced with disappointment after he failed to bag a job after passing out class 12 in 2016. The 2020 lockdown made things worse, and it was on insistence of a friend that he decided to enroll himself for a welding technician hybrid course at ASDC in Tiroda.

Now employed withTarini Steel Pvt. Ltd. in Pune as a machine operator with a monthly income of Rs 11,000, Amit is grateful that ASDC helped him upskill during the lockdown period and give his career a new lease of life.

Echoing similar sentiments, Roshan Tumsare, from Manoravillage in Gondiadistrict, says, “The welding technician course happened to me at a time when lockdown made me really frustrated. It was an opportunity for me to learn something new and I also got placed a job in Parmatma Welding Workshop in my home village after completion of the course,” he adds.
