Ahmedabad Court Sentences Three, Warns Against Rising Drug Threat

Ahmedabad : The Ahmedabad Sessions Court sentenced three people in a drug trafficking case and raised concerns about the growing drug problem in society. The court warned that drugs are being used to harm the youth and the nation’s future.

In the 2020 case, Barkat Ali Sheikh was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in a methamphetamine drug seizure near Shah Alam toll naka, close to the Silver Spring Hotel. His wife, Rubina Ali Sheikh, and their accomplice, Shahnawaz alias Shanu Olmkhan Pathan, were sentenced to 12 years each. They were also fined ₹1 lakh.

Court Raises Alarm Over Drug Abuse

The court highlighted the alarming rise in drug abuse. It noted how the problem has moved from substances like tobacco and paan to dangerous drugs infiltrating universities, colleges, and hostels. This has left parents worried about their children becoming victims of addiction.

The judgment stressed that drug addiction destroys lives and endangers the country’s future by targeting its youth.

Drugs as a Weapon to Harm Society

The court observed that drugs are now being used as a weapon to destroy the younger generation. So, it described this as a deliberate effort to weaken the nation.

The court called for strict action against drug-related crimes. It emphasized the need for harsh punishments to deter such activities and protect society.
