Surat : The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) is set to host its 83rd installation ceremony, which will witness the presence of Ambassadors and Consul Generals from five countries for the first time in SGCCI’s history.

The ceremony aims to welcome the newly appointed president, Ramesh Vaghasia, for the term 203-24. Highlighting the upcoming initiatives, Vaghasia announced the launch of the SGCCI Global Connect Mission, scheduled alongside the installation ceremony on July 2.

Distinguished guests including Deputy Head of Mission of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Bizunesh Meseret, Consul General of the Republic of Malaysia Ahmad Zuveri Yusuf, and Acting Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia Tollah Ubaidi will grace the occasion. The presence of these esteemed representatives underscores the significance of enhancing business ties between Surat and various countries across the globe.

Ramesh Vaghasia expressed his vision of strengthening business relations with 84 countries worldwide. To facilitate this, an interactive session will be organized with Ambassadors and Consul Generals from Asian nations, including Indonesia, Ethiopia, Canada, and the UK. The session aims to foster discussions on trade and industry requirements, exploring investment opportunities in India for international entrepreneurs.

A special focus will be placed on boosting bilateral trade between Surat and other nations, building upon the city’s rich historical trade legacy. Surat’s port was once frequented by ships from 84 countries, leading to the establishment of a taluka named ‘Choriyasi’ (meaning 84 in Gujarati) in Surat. By harnessing this historical significance, the SGCCI is determined to revitalize the business landscape with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

Vaghasia outlined plans to engage approximately 84,000 young entrepreneurs from South Gujarat, Gujarat, and Surat throughout the year. Their collective efforts will be dedicated to nurturing business relationships with 84 countries worldwide, including those with which trade has a historical precedence.

The SGCCI Global Connect-Mission 84 will bring together 84 Chambers of Commerce from India and 84 countries, fostering dialogue between industrialists. Additionally, Indian Consul Generals in 84 countries and Consul Generals of 84 countries based in India will collaborate to provide guidance on business regulations and laws governing trade with their respective nations.

The event will feature in-depth discussions on the demands and requirements of products in different countries, allowing industrialists to gain valuable insights and boost exports from India. Eminent scholars from international organizations such as the World Bank, World Trade Organization, World Economic Forum, and the United Nations will be invited to share their expertise and guide the business community.

The SGCCI’s endeavors align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious vision of making India a 5 trillion dollar economy by 2027, with a significant contribution expected from Gujarat. The region has been tasked with achieving exports worth 1 trillion dollars, out of which 150 billion dollars will be derived from Gujarat alone. These goals highlight the commitment of Indian industrialists towards promoting trade and economic growth on both national and international fronts.
