AM/NS India’s Security and Fire Crew Rescue Trapped India Post Van Driver in Surat-Hazira Road Crash

Hazira/Surat: The security and fire department of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), a joint venture of ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, two of the largest steel manufacturers in the world, successfully rescued a driver trapped inside an Indian Post department vehicle after an accident with a parked dumper on the Surat-Hazira Road near the Marine Police Station.

Ram Nivas from the Hazira steel plant’s security control room reported the event to AM/NS India’s fire control at around on Sunday, July 2, 2023.

The vehicle was on its way from Surat to the Hazira Ro-Ro Ferry Terminal when the tragedy occurred. A parked dumper was involved in the crash.

Captain Sujoykumar Ganguli (IN), Head of Security and Fire at AM/NS India, described their fire and safety team’s quick reaction in freeing the trapped driver. He said, “Our fire and safety team are committed to provide whatever possible support to people in and around our Hazira plant, our objective is to save life and property loss as much as possible and timely support people in need.”

Taking quick action, the fire personnel used a small battery-powered cutter to delicately cut a section of the cabin construction, allowing the trapped driver to be safely removed. Rohit Baraiya, the rescued driver, was subsequently turned over to the 108 Ambulance staff. Despite the trauma, Baraiya remained conscious, and no apparent severe injuries were discovered.
