Surat/Hazira (Gujarat) [India] : ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) organized a week-long celebration as a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav’ with multiple activities by the employees at its Hazira facility near Surat. The Iconic Week  is being celebrated from July 4 to 10 by the Ministry of Steel under the themes of raising steel consumption with a focus on rural India, moving towards a circular economy, and Atmanirbharta (self-reliance).

AM/NS India organised a tableau activity at Vesu in Surat on Wednesday. The tableau was flagged off by Ashish Gujarati, president of The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Ashish Gujarati said, “ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel is a Navratna among industries in south Gujarat. The company’s initiative to build a 1.2-km long road using steel slag as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is commendable. The celebrations of the 75th year by the company are praiseworthy. I recall that even during the Covid-19 pandemic, the company had set up a Covid care hospital almost overnight as a part of fulfilling its social commitment.”

Posters and banners were also put up as a part of the celebrations, which saw the participation of more than 150 people from AM/NS India. The banners promoted the government’s Swachhta Abhiyaan. A large number of jute bags were also distributed along the route of the tableau.

In addition, as a part of the celebrations, AM/NS India undertook a cleanliness drive in schools of Hazira and Junagam villages in the vicinity of its integrated steel manufacturing plant at Hazira. The drive witnessed the enthusiastic participation of school children.

“AM/NS India is privileged to be participating in the celebrations of the Iconic Week organized to mark the 75th year of India’s independence. AM/NS India is committed to contributing to nation- building in every way,” said Dr. Anil Matoo, Head, Human Resources Operations, IR, and Administration at AM/NS India.

The tableau then travelled to Chikhli-Saputara and other areas of Dangs district on Thursday. Amit Chaudhary, Prant Officer of Chikhli, and Mahesh Chaudhary, taluka primary education officer, graced the celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at CKS tribal boys and DAI tribal girls school at Chikhli.
