Surat : A major Indian fact-checking website, Alt News, has debunked the assertions made by TimesNow news anchor R Shivshankar in a debate linking the site’s creator, Mohammed Zubair, to billionaire financier George Soros. Time Now stated that Alt News is a member of the Soros-funded International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) and that the IFCN provides funds for the organisation.

In his tweet to Times of India’s Vineet Jain and Times Now, Mohammed Zubair said, “So @vineetjaintimes’s @TimesNow & its News presenter @RShivshankar has linked George Soros to me & @AltNews. Someone tell him, Alt News  has never received any funding from IFCN in any form. Plus, @AltNews has not been a signatory since 2020. At least pretend to do research a little”

In another tweet, Zubair said, “Also, Bharat Gupta, chief executive officer of Jagran News Media is an IFCN board member. So according to your logic, even @JagranNews, @JagranNewMedia @Newsvishvas and all the employees working in Jagran & Vishvas News are funded by George Soros? Directly/Indirectly?”

In another tweet, Zubair said, “Stoop coming up with conspiracy theories circulated by Right Wing Trolls. If you are finding it difficult doing the research before coming up with such allegations, ask your staff to do that for you & try to get a statement from IFCN or their active signatories @RShivshankar”

George Soros, who was speaking at the Munich Security Conference stated that India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be weakened by the woes of business tycoon and close ally Gautam Adani, ‘opening the door’ to a democratic revival in the country.

Soros, the 92-year-old billionaire and philanthropist stated in his speech on Thursday last that Modi would ‘Have to answer questions’ from foreign investors and parliament on allegations of fraud and stock manipulation at Adani’s industrial empire, nothing that Modi has been ‘silent on the topic”
