Surat | Gujarat — A young innovator from Surat has captured the imagination of the country with a fascinating blend of engineering and artificial intelligence. Shivam Maurya, popularly known as Creative Science on social media, has created a bicycle that runs on the road without a rider. The unusual invention—now dubbed the “Ghost Bicycle”—has gone viral online after videos showed the cycle moving on its own, with pedals turning as if an invisible rider were in control.
Residents who witnessed the test runs were left stunned as the bicycle appeared to move independently on city roads. Children reportedly reacted with a mix of curiosity and fear, as the sight of pedals turning without a human rider created a surreal, almost cinematic experience.
Three Months of Hard Work and ₹35,000 Innovation
The AI-powered bicycle is the result of three months of continuous work by Shivam Maurya and his collaborator Gurpreet Arora. Built at an estimated cost of ₹35,000, the project is more than a viral spectacle—it represents a serious experiment in robotics and automation.
According to Shivam, the bicycle uses sensors, circuits and AI-based mapping to maintain balance and follow a predetermined route without human assistance. “We wanted to create something that merges engineering with imagination. This project shows how accessible technology can create futuristic solutions,” he said.
Human-Like Pedaling Adds a ‘Ghostly’ Effect
What truly sets the Ghost Bicycle apart is its lifelike pedaling mechanism. The creators installed a structure resembling human legs that pedal naturally as the bicycle moves. This feature gives the illusion that someone invisible is riding it, which is why the internet quickly named it the “Ghost Bicycle.”
“When we tested the bicycle on the road, people gathered around in surprise,” Shivam explained. “Children were especially startled because the cycle was moving and pedaling even though no one was sitting on it.”
App, Remote, or Fully Automatic Mode
The Ghost Bicycle can be controlled in three different ways. Users can operate it through a smartphone app, control it via remote, or switch it to a fully autonomous mode where the bicycle navigates a pre-coded route. Sensors allow the vehicle to detect obstacles, maintain balance and take turns safely.
This flexibility opens possibilities beyond entertainment. The creators believe the technology could be adapted for contactless delivery, campus security patrols and eco-friendly transport systems in smart cities.
Who Is Shivam Maurya?
Shivam Maurya is already a recognized name in the digital innovation community. His YouTube channel Creative Science has over two million subscribers, where he regularly showcases experimental technology projects. Earlier, he gained national attention for building a driverless Garuda AI Bike.
The Creative Science Institute, the team behind the Ghost Bicycle, has been working on experimental mobility solutions for nearly a decade. Previous projects include robot rickshaws, one-wheeled scooters and capsule cars.
A Glimpse Into Future Mobility
While still a prototype, the Ghost Bicycle has sparked conversations about the future of automation and sustainable transport. Shivam believes such technologies could help create safer, smarter and pollution-free cities.
“This is just the beginning,” he said. “We want to make futuristic transport accessible and useful in real life.”
