Ahmedabad (Gujarat) : With almost every small and big business, be it local or global, going digital one cannot discount the vast number of simple and complex challenges that await us. As learning new skills are becoming the new norm, many institutions and universities are leaving no stone unturned to keep their students well-prepared to face any sort of challenges in the future.

In order to make the students future-ready, inspire them towards adapting new problem-solving methods as well as gain the knowledge required to bring in new innovations, increased productivity, and sharp career growth, the Adani University (Ahmedabad, Gujarat) in association with IQM Corporation, recently organized an intra-college Hackathon. The Hackathon’s debut edition took place on November 12 & 13 in Ahmedabad and the event was spanned over a period of 24 hours.

Hackathon is often referred to as a social coding competition that witnesses students and individuals getting engaged in a rapid and collaborative engineering approach to create come up with solution-based outcomes to every given challenge.

The event saw tremendous participation from students across many institutions. With an aim to make the participants thoroughly understand the nuances of a hackathon, a three-hour preliminary assessment was carried out for 43 participating teams on November 10. Furthermore, the top 22 teams were then shortlisted for the final competition.

Divulging more details about the event, Janki Maradia, (ICT Batch, 2019-23) says, “This is the first time I was participating in an event like this, and it was an enriching experience.”

Janki who also won the debut edition of the Hackathon, further adds, “The opportunity of being with like-minded mentors and fellow participants has opened a gateway for me to learn so many new things about the software development process, debugging process and much more.”

Each team consisted of four students with different skill sets enabling them to take up complex challenges and identify their strengths and weakness when working in a team. These challenges were designed by IQM Corporation, and every team had 24 hours to come up with a solution to the given problems. These challenges were divided into the following categories: beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.

Harsh Patel, director of IQM Corporation, adds, “As we often recruit students from Adani University, we have seen tremendous potential in the students here. They are always eager to develop innovative products, services, and systems. The Hackathon has been organized to bring fore such amazing talent and give them a platform to get exposed to global technologies and trends.”

Each team was seen brainstorming, working in a team, and coming up with outcome-based model solutions. With each passing hour, the competition kept getting better and tougher. The participants enjoyed the coding aptitude and the thrilling environment of being engaged in healthy competition. Towards the end of the event, the participants were seen rejoicing having accomplished major tasks, and were equally excited to demonstrate their developed prototype.

The evaluation panel consisted of subject matter experts from Adani University and industry experts from IQM Corporation who meticulously evaluated the complete approach of each team’s problem-solving skills and final model. These experts appreciated the hard work of each team. The winner and runner-up teams were later announced and awarded. Adani University is determined to provide more such interesting opportunities for the student fraternity.
