Adani Hazira Port organize mock drill in collaboration with National Disaster Response Force
At 2.30 pm at Gate No. 1 of Adani Port at Hazira, a tank full of acrylonitrile chemical suddenly leaked poisonous gas and then caught fire. The company's fire tank, ambulance and other equipment and men reached the spot after the security informed about the incident.
Surat : There was a sudden news of gas leakage at Adani Hazira port today. The news reached the nearby companies, local administration, district crisis group to NDRF in no time. It was a mock drill to test all levels of alertness and understand what to do and what not to do in such a situation. Which was organized by the CEO of Adani Hazira Port with the support of District Administration and Surat District Industrial Safety and Health Office.
At 2.30 pm at Gate No. 1 of Adani Port at Hazira, a tank full of acrylonitrile chemical suddenly leaked poisonous gas and then caught fire. The company’s fire tank, ambulance and other equipment and men reached the spot after the security informed about the incident.
As people were also affected due to gas and fire, several heads were informed and finally the district collector was informed by declaring this level-3 emergency. Their help was also sought by informing the company of Hazira area as the situation became worse.
Realizing the seriousness of the incident, Surat City Provincial Officer VJ Bhandari, Olpad Provincial Officer Partha Talsania, Deputy Police Commissioner Hetal Patel, GPCB Regional Officer Jijnaben Ojha reached the spot.
Surat Municipal Corporation’s fire tank and health ambulance also arrived. The District Crisis Group Command reached the spot and informed the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to take control of the situation after analysis.
A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the spot from Gate-1 and brought the situation under control. One more person was rescued by his team and sent for treatment. Mock drill was completed by NDRF team giving green signal. The exercise assessed what a chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear leakage situation might be like.

Government officials like National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), District Crisis Group-Surat, District Collector, Commissioner of Police-Surat, Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health along with Kunjan Rawat, Deputy Director of District Industrial Safety and Health, Surat, participated in the mock drill exercise held today with Adani Hazira Port Limited. Along with the office, the management authorities, mutual aid industries of Hazira area namely Shell, AMNS, Cribhco, NTPC, Reliance, ONGC, GAIL etc. joined.
