Surat | Gujarat —Adani Foundation celebrated ‘Poshan Pakhwadia’ grandly and effectively from March 15 to March 30 in Umarpada taluka, a remote tribal area of Surat district. The main theme of this campaign has been to bring qualitative improvement in the health of mothers and children in the tribal community and to build a malnutrition-free society.
During this fortnight, programs like family guidance, group discussions and demonstration of nutritious dishes were organized in the remote villages of Umarpada. Practical guidance on balanced diet was given to pregnant women, lactating mothers and adolescents keeping in mind the tribal culture and local food system.
‘Suposhan Sanginis’ have played a fundamental role in the success of this mission. These trained women have been going door to door delivering the message of nutrition and cleanliness in simple tribal dialect. With the support of the ICDS department of the government, this movement has taken a widespread form.
According to representatives of the Adani Foundation, this is not just a formal celebration but a mass movement for a healthy lifestyle in remote areas. Through this initiative, efforts are being made to develop a positive attitude towards nutritious food, cleanliness and health among the people. It is hoped that this noble initiative will improve the nutritional level of the vulnerable sections of the population and build a strong tribal society.
