Vadodara : Dediyapada trial court has sanctioned a three-day police remand for AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava, instructing authorities to ensure proper treatment of the legislator during custody.
Vasava, who had been in hiding following a criminal complaint, faced charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including grievous hurt to a forest beat guard, rioting, criminal intimidation, and possession of arms. The allegations against him involve purportedly extorting Rs 60,000 from a forest officer and threatening the said officer.
The complaint against Vasava was lodged on November 2, 2023. Despite multiple rejections of his anticipatory bail applications, including by the High Court, Vasava remained underground, attempting to seek bail from the Supreme Court.
However, on Thursday, he surrendered himself to the police, subsequently appearing before the trial court where the police sought a 14-day remand. The court, however, approved a three-day remand for further investigation.
Representing Vasava, AAP party’s national joint secretary Gopal Italia appeared before the court, vehemently refuting the accusations, labeling the entire case as fabricated. Italia highlighted the delay in filing the complaint, questioning the authenticity of the allegations. He emphasized the absence of corroborative evidence supporting claims of firing and urged the court to scrutinize the lack of evidence presented.
Italia opposed the prosecution’s remand plea, urging the court to dismiss the request, citing the absence of credible evidence and the questionable delay in filing the complaint. The defense staunchly maintained Vasava’s innocence, asserting that the allegations lacked substance and authenticity.
The case has attracted attention due to the nature of allegations against the AAP MLA, with both sides presenting contrasting narratives. As the investigation continues, Vasava’s legal team remains steadfast in challenging the prosecution’s claims, emphasizing the need for concrete evidence
