Kolkata, West Bengal — The Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC), Salt Lake, resonated with literary fervour as Two Plays, a new book by playwright Rik Amrit, was officially launched at the Aikatan Auditorium.
The evening was marked by the esteemed presence of Swami Vedaswarupananda Maharaj, senior monk of the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Golpark, who released the book and spoke with spiritual insight on the theme of Guru Māhātmya, underlining the eternal relevance of the teacher-disciple relationship.
The gathering drew several eminent figures from the literary and cultural world, including noted Bengali poet Shri Sudhir Dutta. In his welcome address, Shri Ashis Giri, Director of EZCC, applauded the younger generation of theatre makers for their efforts in revitalising classical Indian themes with contemporary sensibilities.
Two Plays presents A Nirvāṇa—A Jātaka Story and Aśvatthāmā—The Night Warrior, both deeply rooted in ancient Indian wisdom yet strikingly attuned to modern moral and social concerns. Originally composed for stage performances in Hindi and Bengali, these works are now available in English, broadening their reach to a diverse readership.
Adding to its intellectual richness, the volume features a foreword by Shri Arjun Bharadwaj, acclaimed Indologist and scholar of classical Indian literature.
