Surat : Fire Sparks Panic at Sangini Hub-2 Textile Market

SURAT :  Panic gripped traders, workers and shoppers at the busy Sangini Hub-2 textile market in Saroli after a fire broke out on the first floor while the market was operational.

As smoke rapidly filled the floor, people rushed towards safety, triggering chaos inside the crowded textile complex.

The Surat Municipal Corporation’s fire control room was alerted immediately. More than 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, with firefighters launching an intensive operation to prevent the flames from spreading to adjoining shops and upper floors.

Firefighters attacked the blaze from multiple sides using hose pipes as thick smoke hampered rescue and firefighting operations.

The large quantity of textile stock inside the market caused smoke to spread rapidly, making visibility difficult and creating breathing problems for those in the affected area.

Preliminary information indicated that a short circuit may have triggered the fire, though the exact cause will be established after a detailed assessment.

There were no reports of casualties at the time of reporting. However, substantial damage to textile stock is feared.

Firefighters continued firefighting and cooling operations to completely extinguish the blaze and prevent any possibility of a re-ignition.

The incident has once again highlighted the challenges of fire safety and emergency evacuation in Surat’s densely packed textile market areas.
