Rajkot range D-Staff under scanner, IG seeks personnel and family details

RAJKOT : The detective machinery across the Rajkot Range is facing a major internal review, with Range IG Nirlipt Rai seeking detailed information on D-Staff personnel and their family connections to people with criminal backgrounds.

The move covers police units across Rajkot Rural, Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar and Surendranagar. The information sought includes personnel details, their posting history and whether any relatives are criminals, history-sheeters or bootleggers.

Rai’s directive comes amid a broader push for greater accountability within the police force. Recent action in the range has included investigations into allegations against serving personnel. In one recent Jamnagar case, Rai transferred a probe involving a police constable accused of illegal moneylending and formed an SIT.

According to the reported directive, district police chiefs have been asked to compile details of D-Staff personnel, including their names, native places, current addresses and the length of their service in detective squads.

Officials are also expected to identify any close relatives allegedly involved in criminal activities, including bootlegging and history-sheet records.

The exercise could lead to changes in the composition and functioning of D-Staff teams across the four districts.

The reported focus is on ensuring that personnel with a clean professional reputation handle sensitive detection and investigation work.

The development assumes significance because D-Staff teams often deal directly with intelligence gathering, criminal networks and investigations at the police-station level.

Rai has previously adopted a strict approach to wanted offenders and police operations. After taking charge of the Rajkot Range, he initiated action to identify wanted accused and sought cooperation from the public in tracing them.

The latest review could now bring greater scrutiny to the internal functioning of D-Staff units.
