SURAT : A Surat car owner has taken on Go Digit General Insurance Limited after the insurer allegedly rejected a ₹4.75 lakh vehicle damage claim following a highway accident in Maharashtra. The policyholder has now served a legal notice, accusing the insurer of wrongly interpreting policy terms and denying a legitimate claim.
Sanjeevkumar Ishwarlal Naik, through advocate Gemalsinh M. Thakor, has challenged the rejection and warned of consumer court proceedings if the dispute is not resolved.
The case relates to an April 28, 2026 accident near Panchgani, Maharashtra. Naik’s Hyundai Venue reportedly collided with an unlit and broken-down truck that was allegedly stranded on the highway without barricades.
According to the legal notice, the accident was promptly reported to the insurer. The vehicle was subsequently taken to authorised Hyundai service centre Divine Motors, where the estimated repair cost reportedly exceeded 75% of the vehicle’s insured declared value (IDV) of ₹5.61 lakh.
The policyholder has claimed that the damage therefore warranted treatment as a total loss. However, Go Digit allegedly rejected the insurance claim on August 5.
“They took our premiums on time, but when disaster struck, they hid behind arbitrary clauses and technicalities,” the legal notice quoted the policyholder’s legal representation as stating.
The dispute has also left the damaged vehicle at the workshop for around four months, according to the complainant. He has alleged that the prolonged delay has resulted in additional parking charges and expenses for an alternative vehicle.
The legal notice reportedly seeks payment of the full ₹5.61 lakh IDV, along with compensation for alternate transport, parking expenses and legal costs.
The insurer has been given 10 days to comply, failing which the policyholder has warned of initiating appropriate civil and consumer proceedings.
