Gujarat : Poppy Husk Chase Explodes Into Gunpoint Clash, Two Cops Injured

ARAVALLI : A narcotics interception turned into a tense pre-dawn confrontation in Gujarat’s Aravalli district after suspected poppy husk smugglers allegedly rammed a police vehicle and pointed a revolver-like weapon at the SOG team near Shinol village in Dhansura taluka. Police fired two rounds in self-defence, but the suspects escaped under the cover of darkness.

The incident left SOG Police Inspector P.B. Chaudhary and police van driver Prakashsinh injured during the collision and ensuing scuffle. District Police Chief Manoharsinh Jadeja rushed to the spot as teams launched a search for the two absconding suspects.

According to police, the SOG team had received information about a suspicious black Scorpio allegedly carrying poppy husks. Officers began chasing the vehicle and attempted to intercept it near Shinol.

However, the suspects allegedly refused to stop and collided with the police vehicle. The confrontation intensified when one of the men allegedly brandished a revolver-like gun towards the police.

“Preliminary information suggests that the accused may have links with the Bishnoi gang. Both suspects are currently absconding,” SOG PI P.B. Chaudhary said.

Chaudhary reportedly fired two rounds in response to the alleged threat. During the collision and physical struggle, Chaudhary and driver Prakashsinh sustained injuries.

Senior police officers immediately reached the scene and intensified the search operation. Police have also alerted checkpoints along the Gujarat-Rajasthan border to prevent the suspects from crossing into Rajasthan.

The alleged recovery of poppy husks has added a narcotics angle to the case. Police are now working to trace the Scorpio, identify the suspects and establish the source and intended destination of the contraband.

Officials said teams are conducting intensive checks in the surrounding areas. The alleged Bishnoi gang connection is also being verified as part of the investigation.
