Snake Rescued After Falling Into Chemical-Laden ETP Water

VAPI : A five-foot-long venomous snake had a close brush with death after falling into a company’s effluent treatment plant (ETP) tank in Vapi GIDC and ingesting chemical-laden water. The snake was found unconscious and was revived after an animal rescuer performed CPR for nearly two minutes.

The incident occurred on Friday at IGCL, located in the first phase of Vapi GIDC, triggering panic among employees after the snake was spotted inside the ETP plant.

Company officials immediately contacted animal rescuer Sanjay Pawar, who reached the site and retrieved the unconscious reptile from the tank.

Pawar said the snake appeared to have been affected after coming into contact with and ingesting the water inside the ETP tank.

“The snake had fallen into the tank and consumed the chemical-laden water. When I retrieved it, it was unconscious. I performed CPR for around two minutes, after which it regained consciousness,” Pawar said.

After successfully reviving the snake, Pawar transported it away from the industrial area and released it in a safe forested location.

The rescue also highlighted the risks posed by venomous snakes entering industrial premises, particularly areas containing chemically treated wastewater.

Pawar said people should maintain caution when encountering venomous snakes and immediately seek professional assistance rather than attempting to handle them.

He added that a bite from a venomous snake can require prolonged medical observation and treatment.

Friday proved particularly busy for the rescuer, with two more venomous cobras being rescued in Vapi. One cobra was found at an open plot near Chalana Bhathela Party Plot, while another was rescued from a company located in Damanganga Industrial Park.

The incidents have once again highlighted the need for companies operating in industrial zones to maintain safety measures around ETPs, tanks and other areas that could become accidental traps for wildlife.
