NADIAD: From the wrestling mat to the boxing ring, Gujarat’s prison personnel delivered a commanding sporting performance, helping the Gujarat Prisons and Correctional Administration Department clinch the DGP Cup 2026-27 Wrestling Cluster Championship at the Nadiad Sports Complex.
The department emerged overall champion after winning 13 medals — six gold, six silver and one bronze — in a competition featuring 22 teams from across Gujarat. The event included wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, arm wrestling and boxing.
In wrestling, department captain Raghubhai Patel and Divya S. Chauhan secured gold medals, while Tarunsingh V. Dahiya and Nagabhai R. Karangiya won silver. Mahirhasan M. Shaikh also represented the department in the discipline.
The department continued its strong run in Greco-Roman wrestling, where Mahipalsingh D. Mori clinched gold, while captain Raghubhai Patel added a silver.
Arm wrestling produced another strong medal haul. Tarunsingh Vikramsingh Dahiya won gold, while MahmadMansur M. Mansuri, Dharmisthaben D. Vala and Mahirhasan M. Shaikh secured silver medals. Nagabhai R. Karangiya won bronze.
In boxing, Nikulbhai S. Thakor added another gold to the department’s tally.
Congratulating the athletes, DGP (Prisons and Correctional Services) Dr K.L.N. Rao said, “This outstanding victory is a testament to the dedication, discipline and relentless hard work of our personnel. Excelling across multiple combat sports and securing the overall Championship Trophy brings immense pride to the entire department.”
He congratulated the medal winners and participants for their sporting spirit and commitment to physical fitness.
The department said the achievement reflects its increasing emphasis on sports, discipline and physical fitness among prison personnel. Its performance across multiple combat disciplines not only secured the DGP Cup but also highlighted the sporting potential of its personnel at the state level.
