Gujarat Textbooks Now a Click Away on Amazon

GANDHINAGAR: Buying school textbooks in Gujarat could soon become as simple as making an online purchase, with the Gujarat State Board of School Textbook signing an MoU with Amazon to facilitate doorstep delivery of textbooks to private-school students.

The agreement, signed in the presence of Education Minister Dr Pradyuman Vaja, aims to make textbooks for all mediums and standards available online, allowing students and parents to order them from home.

Calling the initiative a major step towards “Ease of Education”, Vaja said the partnership would make educational resources more accessible in the digital age.

“This MoU will be a revolutionary step towards ‘Ease of Education’ in the digital age,” the minister said, adding that the initiative aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to strengthen Gujarat’s education ecosystem.

Under the arrangement, textbooks will be delivered to students at their printed prices, without delivery charges. The service will particularly benefit students of self-financed schools who need to purchase additional textbooks beyond those supplied free by the government.

Gujarat State Board of School Textbook Chairman Manubhai Pavra said the partnership would eliminate the need for parents to visit bookshops and wait in queues, particularly during the beginning of the academic year.

“Students and parents will no longer need to visit retailers or distributors to purchase textbooks, saving valuable time,” Pavra said.

The board currently supplies around 1.5 crore textbooks annually to students of self-financed schools across Gujarat through authorised distributors and booksellers.

Amazon India Category Leader for Books Rashi Bahadur said the partnership would help ensure that access to educational content does not become a barrier to learning.

“We are proud to partner with a state like Gujarat that continues to prioritise educational excellence,” Bahadur said.

The initiative is expected to leverage Amazon’s logistics network to improve timely access to textbooks while reducing dependence on physical retail channels.
