AHMEDABAD : Ahead of Raksha Bandhan 2026, India Post has introduced specially designed water-resistant Rakhi covers and gift boxes to help sisters send their Rakhis safely and on time to brothers across India and overseas. The initiative aims to protect Rakhis from monsoon rains while ensuring faster delivery during one of the busiest festive seasons.
The special Rakhi covers and gift boxes were unveiled by Postmaster General of North Gujarat Region, Krishna Kumar Yadav. The products are now available at all Head Post Offices, Sub Post Offices and Branch Post Offices across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Aravalli, Sabarkantha, Banaskantha and Patan districts, besides Railway Mail Service counters.
“Our objective is to ensure that every Rakhi reaches its destination safely, attractively and on time. The new water-resistant covers will protect Rakhis even during heavy rains,” said Krishna Kumar Yadav.
The designer Rakhi covers, available in three attractive designs, measure 11 cm × 22 cm and are priced at ₹10, excluding postage charges. India Post has also introduced gift boxes in 250 gm, 500 gm and 1 kg capacities, priced at ₹35, ₹40 and ₹50, respectively. Customers can use these boxes to send sweets, gifts and other festive items through the India Post parcel service.
Featuring colourful artwork with Rakhi, flowers, puja thali and the India Post logo, the packaging has been designed to stand out during sorting, helping postal staff identify Rakhi consignments quickly and deliver them before the festival.
“Special booking and fast-track sorting arrangements have been made at National Sorting Hubs and Parcel Hubs to ensure timely delivery,” Yadav added.
India Post has also expanded booking hours. A 24-hour booking facility is available at the National Sorting Hub in Shahibaug, Ahmedabad, Maninagar Railway Station, Himmatnagar and Mehsana Head Post Offices, along with Railway Mail Service counters in Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara. Several other post offices will remain open until 8 pm to handle the festive rush.
The department also encouraged customers to use its International Tracked Packet Service, allowing sisters to send Rakhis and gifts to loved ones abroad at affordable rates.
