MUMBAI : India has achieved a major milestone in the global diamond trade with the election of Mehul Shah, Vice President of the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB), as the new President of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB). The unanimous decision was taken during the World Diamond Congress in Singapore, where representatives of 20 leading diamond bourses voted to elect the federation’s new leadership.
Shah’s appointment marks a significant moment for the Indian diamond industry, giving the country a stronger voice in shaping the future of the global natural diamond business at a time of evolving market challenges.
Joining the new leadership team are Luigi Cosma, President of Borsa Diamanti d’Italia, who was elected Vice President, and Molefi Letsiki, Chairman of the Diamond Dealers Club of South Africa, who was elected Treasurer General.
“I am humbled by this appointment and proud to have represented India and Bharat Diamond Bourse on the international stage. This responsibility is rooted in my four decades of commitment to the natural diamond industry,” said Mehul Shah after his election.
The newly elected President expressed confidence that the discussions at the World Diamond Congress would help the industry navigate current global challenges.
“The new WFDB leadership is committed to carrying forward the vision of the Congress and building a stronger future for the global diamond industry,” Shah added.
His election is expected to further strengthen India’s influence in the international diamond trade and reinforce the country’s position as a global hub for natural diamond manufacturing and commerce.
