US President Donald Trump has reacted to Hyderabad’s decision to name a prominent road after him, expressing gratitude and describing it as a historic honour.
In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump thanked India after the official unveiling of Donald Trump Avenue in Hyderabad.
“The new Donald Trump Avenue in Hyderabad, India — The first U.S. President to ever be honoured in this way. Thank you!” Trump wrote.
Donald Trump Avenue unveiled in Hyderabad
The newly named Donald Trump Avenue is located in Nanakramguda’s Financial District, one of Hyderabad’s leading business hubs. The road is situated near the US Consulate and several global technology companies, making it a prominent landmark in the city.
The Telangana government said the renaming reflects Hyderabad’s growing international profile and its close ties with the United States.
Plaque unveiled during commemorative event
The ceremonial plaque was unveiled earlier this week in the presence of US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and senior Telangana government officials during celebrations marking 250 years of American independence.
The event highlighted the longstanding partnership between India and the United States, particularly in technology, education, trade and innovation.
Telangana highlights India-US partnership
The proposal to name the road after Donald Trump was first announced by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy during the Telangana Rising Summit in December 2025.
State leaders said the initiative is part of a broader effort to create globally recognised landmarks in Hyderabad while strengthening international partnerships.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said the relationship between Telangana and the United States extends far beyond diplomacy.
He noted that thousands of families in Telangana have close personal and professional connections with America through students, entrepreneurs, professionals and business leaders.
Highlighting Hyderabad’s emergence as a global technology hub, Vikramarka said the city has evolved from attracting multinational companies to producing internationally recognised business leaders, including Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella.
Hyderabad’s global ambitions
The road renaming forms part of the Telangana government’s wider plan to name important roads and public infrastructure after internationally recognised personalities and institutions.
Officials believe such initiatives will further strengthen Hyderabad’s image as a global investment and innovation destination while showcasing its expanding role in India-US relations.
Trump’s public acknowledgement of the honour has drawn international attention, making Donald Trump Avenue one of Hyderabad’s newest globally recognised landmarks.
