Pune Realtor Murder Case: 2,004 Calls, Secret Meetings and Failed Alibi Reveal Alleged Murder Plot

Police say digital evidence, deleted chats and CCTV footage point to a carefully planned conspiracy behind the killing of Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal at Lohagad Fort.

The investigation into the murder of 25-year-old Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal has uncovered what police describe as a meticulously planned conspiracy involving his fiancée Siya Goyal and her alleged boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary.

Investigators say the case is backed by months of phone records, CCTV footage, deleted digital evidence, conflicting statements and a failed alibi that allegedly exposed the accused.

Ketan died on June 18 after falling into a gorge at Lohagad Fort in Maharashtra. Police allege he was deliberately pushed from the cliff, leading to the arrest of Siya Goyal, 20, and Chetan Chaudhary, 22.

Police claim Chetan encouraged Siya to kill Ketan

According to investigators, questioning of both accused revealed that Chetan repeatedly encouraged Siya to eliminate Ketan so they could continue their relationship without opposition.

Officials said both initially blamed each other during interrogation before admitting their respective roles in the alleged conspiracy.

Police have also questioned Siya’s brother, who was reportedly aware of her relationship with Chetan, while her parents have denied having any knowledge of the affair.

Murder allegedly planned in advance

Investigators believe the killing was not spontaneous but the result of weeks of planning.

According to police, the couple selected an isolated location at Lohagad Fort where Siya would allegedly signal Chetan after reaching the cliff edge. Chetan would then emerge and push Ketan into the gorge before he realised what was happening.

Police further claim June 18 was the third attempt to kill Ketan.

Investigators allege the couple had earlier planned visits to Lohagad Fort on May 31 and June 4, but those attempts were unsuccessful. Police also claim Siya allegedly pushed Ketan near the cliff on June 14, but he survived after grabbing onto nearby bushes. She reportedly told him she had pushed him to save him from a snake.

CCTV captures final planning meeting

A major breakthrough came from CCTV footage showing Siya and Chetan meeting at a café in Pune on June 17, one day before Ketan’s death.

Police believe the pair finalised their plan during the meeting after reviewing videos and maps of Lohagad Fort to identify a secluded location where the crime could be carried out.

Investigation reveals over 2,000 phone calls

Call detail records have become one of the strongest pieces of evidence in the case.

According to Pune Rural Police, Siya and Chetan exchanged 2,004 phone calls between January and June this year, spending nearly 238 hours speaking with each other.

Investigators say several conversations lasted more than two hours and are examining whether those calls were connected to planning the alleged murder.

Deleted chats sent for forensic recovery

Police have also recovered evidence suggesting both accused deleted conversations from their mobile phones before and after the incident.

The devices have been sent to a forensic laboratory where experts are attempting to recover deleted messages, media files and other digital records that may help establish the sequence of events.

How police say Chetan’s alibi collapsed

Investigators allege Chetan tried to create the impression that he remained at his dry-fruit shop on the day of the incident.

Police claim he left his mobile phone at the shop with an employee while carrying another person’s phone during his journey to Lohagad Fort.

Technical analysis and location data allegedly placed him near the crime scene at the relevant time, contradicting his claim that he never left the shop.

CCTV reconstructs the timeline

Police analysed CCTV footage from multiple locations to recreate the accused’s movements.

According to investigators, Chetan completed the trek to Lohagad Fort and back in 48 minutes. Officials estimate he spent only a few minutes at the summit before leaving, a timeline they believe matches the alleged murder.

Family suspicions led to fresh investigation

Following Ketan’s funeral, Siya visited the Agarwal family.

During a conversation, Ketan’s sister reportedly noticed inconsistencies in Siya’s description of the incident and later approached police.

Investigators say her statement prompted a closer examination of the circumstances surrounding Ketan’s death, eventually leading to the murder investigation.

Motive remains under investigation

Police believe Siya’s relationship with Chetan was a key factor behind the alleged conspiracy.

However, both families have offered different accounts regarding the motive.

While investigators believe Siya no longer wanted to marry Ketan, her family has denied knowing about any relationship between Siya and Chetan. Ketan’s family has also dismissed speculation surrounding personal issues before the engagement.

Fast-track trial sought

Ketan’s family has demanded swift justice and met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, requesting a fast-track trial.

The state government has appointed senior advocate Ujjwal Nikam as Special Public Prosecutor in the case.

Meanwhile, Pune Rural Police have formed six special investigation teams to examine digital evidence, CCTV footage, forensic findings, financial records and witness statements as they prepare the final chargesheet.

Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary remain in police custody while the investigation continues.
