The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has seized 2.08 lakh Tramadol tablets worth an estimated ₹8.32 crore in the international black market and arrested the alleged mastermind behind the operation from Rajasthan.

The accused, Paresh Jain, a resident of Sadri in Rajasthan’s Pali district, was arrested in Gogunda taluka of Udaipur district after ATS officers tracked him following the seizure of the drug consignment in Ahmedabad.

Luxury bus intercepted in Ahmedabad

According to officials, the operation began shortly after midnight when Gujarat ATS, along with the Ahmedabad Crime Branch and Special Operations Group (SOG), intercepted an MR Travels luxury bus near Namaste Circle in Shahibaug.

During the search, officers recovered six large cartons containing 416 smaller boxes packed with Tramadol Hydrochloride 100 mg tablets branded as Scovidol-100. Authorities estimate the seized narcotics are worth around ₹8.32 crore in the international illicit market.

Investigators said the consignment had been dispatched from Ankleshwar, Gujarat, to Pali, Rajasthan, using fake transport documents that falsely described the shipment as legitimate pharmaceutical products.

Accused allegedly trafficked over 6.25 crore tablets

During interrogation, Paresh Jain allegedly admitted to procuring and distributing 6,25,40,000 Tramadol tablets through 25 consignments between May and June 2026.

Police said the tablets were primarily supplied to buyers in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

According to investigators, Jain obtained a medical stockist licence in May this year, which he allegedly used to facilitate the illegal distribution of the controlled drug.

Previous NDPS cases

ATS officials said Jain is not new to narcotics-related offences. He has previously been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Haridwar and Thane for alleged involvement in the illegal possession and trafficking of codeine-based cough syrup.

Investigators have also linked him to a Vapi drug case last month in which 2.38 kilograms of mephedrone was seized and four people were arrested.

Investigation underway

The Gujarat ATS is continuing its investigation to identify other members of the trafficking network and determine the full scale of the interstate operation. Officials are also examining whether additional pharmaceutical licences or transport routes were used to move the narcotics across the country.
