Gandhinagar | Gujarat — In a major step towards transforming technical education and preparing students for the demands of the global workforce, the Government of Gujarat has entered into a strategic partnership with Bentley Systems, a leading American digital infrastructure software company. The collaboration is expected to significantly enhance the employability and technical capabilities of thousands of engineering students across the state.
A non-commercial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Gujarat Knowledge Society (GKS), functioning under the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Gujarat, and Bentley Systems. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry requirements by introducing students to globally used digital engineering tools and practices.
Under the partnership, more than 300 faculty members from Civil Engineering departments of 16 Government Engineering Colleges and 31 Government Polytechnic Colleges will undergo specialized Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) conducted by Bentley experts. The training is expected to directly benefit over 14,800 students pursuing civil engineering and related disciplines.
“This collaboration will equip students with industry-relevant skills and exposure to technologies shaping the future of infrastructure development,” officials associated with the programme said.
Students will receive hands-on training in advanced software platforms such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, OpenFlows, Synchro and Digital Twin technologies. The programme will also include project-based learning, design competitions, hackathons and real-world case studies to provide practical industry exposure.
A major highlight of the initiative is the free access to more than 65 industry-standard Bentley software applications for students and faculty. Additionally, the Bentley Learn Platform will enable self-paced digital learning, allowing students to access advanced educational resources from anywhere.
“Learning will extend beyond textbooks and classrooms, giving students opportunities to work on real infrastructure challenges and develop practical problem-solving skills,” a senior education official noted.
Participants who successfully complete the training will receive joint certification from Gujarat Knowledge Society and Bentley Systems, providing them with globally recognized credentials. The programme will also facilitate guest lectures, internships, industrial visits and interactions with industry experts.
Aligned with the objectives of Skill India, Digital India and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the initiative is expected to strengthen Gujarat’s position as a hub for skilled engineering talent while preparing students for careers in digital infrastructure, smart transportation systems, water networks and next-generation engineering technologies.
Officials believe the partnership will play a crucial role in creating globally competitive engineers capable of leading India’s digital infrastructure revolution.
