OpenAI is reportedly preparing a major transformation of ChatGPT, with plans to evolve the platform beyond a traditional chatbot into a powerful AI-driven “super app” built around autonomous AI agents, coding tools, and enterprise-focused services.
According to a report by the Financial Times, OpenAI’s long-term vision is to create a personal AI assistant capable of helping users manage both professional and everyday tasks through intelligent automation and deep software integration.
Speaking about the company’s future direction, OpenAI executive Thibault Sottiaux reportedly described the goal as building an AI agent that can support users across nearly every aspect of daily life — from workplace productivity and coding assistance to scheduling, organization, and digital workflows.
AI Agents and Codex at the Center of OpenAI’s Strategy
A major component of OpenAI’s strategy revolves around Codex, the company’s AI-powered coding platform, which is said to have surpassed five million weekly active users.
OpenAI reportedly believes the future of artificial intelligence lies in autonomous AI agents capable of completing tasks on behalf of users rather than simply responding to prompts in a chat window. These AI systems could eventually handle actions such as booking travel, managing calendars, organizing projects, automating workflows, and interacting with third-party applications.
To support this vision, OpenAI is said to be redesigning both ChatGPT’s web and mobile platforms, placing greater emphasis on coding tools, image generation, integrations, and AI-powered productivity experiences.
Enterprise Focus Intensifies Amid Growing Competition
The company is also reportedly restructuring its internal product teams and shifting greater attention toward enterprise customers and business-focused AI services.
The move comes as competition within the artificial intelligence industry continues to intensify. Rivals including Anthropic and Microsoft are rapidly expanding their own AI ecosystems, increasing pressure on OpenAI to strengthen monetization strategies and establish long-term profitability.
At the same time, OpenAI is reportedly deepening its relationship with policymakers in Washington. The company plans to provide the U.S. government with early access to certain AI models under a voluntary framework introduced during the administration of Donald Trump.
Reports also suggest ongoing discussions around potential government participation in the economic benefits of AI development, with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said to be involved in conversations regarding future AI policy and regulation.
The reported overhaul signals OpenAI’s ambition to position ChatGPT not just as a conversational assistant, but as a central AI platform capable of powering productivity, software development, automation, and digital services on a much larger scale.
