Daman | Union Territory — The Union Territory of Daman is gearing up for a historic infrastructure milestone as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the region’s first civil airport and a state-of-the-art ₹250 crore government hospital in the first week of June.
The upcoming inauguration is being seen as a transformative moment for Daman’s tourism, healthcare, and connectivity sectors. Authorities believe the projects will significantly enhance the Union Territory’s appeal as a national and international tourist destination.
The newly constructed civil airport on Devka Road has been built at an estimated cost of ₹100 crore over nearly one lakh square metres. Officials said commercial flights connecting Daman with Delhi are expected to begin immediately after the inauguration, while routes to Mumbai and Ahmedabad will follow soon.
Administrator Praful Patel chaired a high-level public review meeting to oversee preparations for the mega event. Authorities are reportedly preparing for a public gathering of nearly 1.5 lakh people during the Prime Minister’s possible visit.
A senior official associated with the project said, “The airport will open a new chapter for Daman by improving accessibility and accelerating tourism-driven economic growth.”
The airport terminal spans 5,460 square metres and includes modern passenger facilities, 12 check-in counters, a waiting lounge for 180 passengers, and a VVIP lounge. The airport can accommodate two Airbus A-320 aircraft simultaneously and will eventually be managed by the Airports Authority of India.
