Surat | Gujarat — At a time when South Gujarat’s industrial landscape is rapidly evolving, 33-year-old industry leader Ravi Raj Desai has stepped into the race for the vice-president’s post of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry with a strong promise of action-oriented leadership and future-focused reforms.

Known for his active involvement in trade and industry circles, Desai has positioned himself as a candidate focused not merely on elections, but on long-term transformation for businesses, MSMEs, startups, and the textile sector in South Gujarat.

Having spent over 12 years with SGCCI and serving on its managing committee since 2018, Desai has held several responsibilities ranging from committee member and chairman to advisor across sectors including food processing, cold storage, yarn manufacturing, entrepreneurship development, and membership engagement.

Speaking about his vision, Ravi Raj Desai said, “Leadership is not defined by age, but by vision, commitment, courage, and contribution. I want SGCCI to become a stronger platform for innovation, industrial growth, and youth empowerment.”

Desai’s campaign strongly emphasizes strengthening Surat’s globally renowned textile industry through the creation of a Common Facility Centre and a Centre of Excellence. He believes these initiatives can provide critical support in testing, certification, advanced technology adoption, skill training, and export competitiveness.

“Surat’s textile sector needs world-class infrastructure and institutional support to compete effectively in global markets,” he stated.

Apart from textiles, Desai is also advocating for ambitious projects including a Food Processing Park, Auto Ancillary Park, and a more vibrant startup ecosystem aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship among young business leaders.

Industry observers see his candidacy as a reflection of the growing demand for younger leadership within trade bodies. His focus on practical execution, infrastructure development, and policy-driven industrial growth has resonated with several emerging entrepreneurs and MSME stakeholders.

Desai has also stressed the importance of creating stronger guidance and support systems for small and medium enterprises, which form the backbone of South Gujarat’s economy.

His campaign slogan, “Recognized by Actions, Not Just Words,” underlines his attempt to project himself as a performance-oriented leader rather than a traditional election candidate.
