Ahmedabad | Gujarat — Just days after taking oath as Bihar’s Chief Minister, Samrat Chaudhary became the target of a chilling death threat that triggered swift interstate police action. Gujarat Police have arrested a 32-year-old man from Sanand for allegedly calling the Chief Minister’s office and threatening to kill him.
The accused, identified as Shekhar Krishna Yadav, was arrested from Nidhrad village in Sanand taluka after police traced the call using mobile location data. The arrest followed a complaint lodged by the CM’s office at Munger police station in Bihar.
Threat call traced to Gujarat
According to DYSP Astha Rana, the accused made the threatening call on April 15 — the very day Chaudhary was sworn in as Bihar’s 24th Chief Minister. “The caller contacted the Bihar CM’s office and issued a death threat. A case was immediately registered in Munger, and coordination between Bihar and Gujarat Police began,” she said.
After the mobile number was traced to Sanand, Bihar Police contacted the Rural SP in Gujarat. Acting on instructions, a team led by PI B.T. Gohil arrested the accused.
Police said Yadav had been working as a truck driver in Sanand for the past four months and often stayed in his vehicle overnight.
CM sworn in just days earlier
The threat came barely hours after Chaudhary took oath as Chief Minister at Lok Bhavan in Patna. The swearing-in ceremony was administered by Governor Syed Ata Hasnain, with Vijay Chaudhary and Bijendra Yadav also taking oath as Deputy Chief Ministers.
Investigation continues
Police officials said the motive behind the threat is under investigation. “We are questioning the accused to determine whether he acted alone or had any links,” an officer said.
