Coimbatore: Determination, resilience, and a passion for travel have transformed Kalaiarasan, popularly known as Kalai Maldives, from a small-town dreamer into the founder of TheTourist360, one of South India’s emerging travel brands known for curated international travel experiences.
Founded in 2021, TheTourist360 has rapidly grown into a trusted travel company serving travelers across India with international holiday packages, celebrity-led tours, and customized global travel experiences.
Born in Vellakovil, Tamil Nadu, Kalaiarasan grew up in a modest middle-class household. His father, Loganathan Palaniappan, supported the family through second-hand car trading and driving work, while his mother, Sagunthala Natarajan, dedicated herself to managing the household. These early experiences shaped Kalai’s work ethic and ambition to build a better future.
Turning Personal Setbacks into Opportunity
After completing his Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering from Hindusthan College of Engineering and Technology in Coimbatore, Kalai initially aimed for a career in the IT industry. However, repeated job rejections and an education loan of nearly ₹5 lakh created significant pressure.
A major setback followed when he lost ₹35,000 to a fraudulent overseas job agent who falsely promised employment in Singapore. Despite the disappointment, Kalai continued working as a television video editor, earning ₹8,000 per month while searching for better opportunities.
His breakthrough came in 2020 when he secured a position as an Airport Representative at Velana International Airport in the Maldives. The role exposed him to the global tourism ecosystem, where he managed airport transfers, coordinated tourist arrivals, and ensured smooth travel experiences for international guests.
The Birth of TheTourist360
When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted tourism worldwide, Kalai returned to India. Instead of abandoning the industry, he identified a unique opportunity during a time when many travelers required quarantine stays in the Maldives before continuing to destinations such as the UAE and Canada.
Using his Maldives industry connections, Kalai began organizing quarantine travel packages that included accommodation, transfers, and travel coordination. What began as a small service quickly evolved into a scalable travel venture.
This initiative eventually led to the creation of TheTourist360, which now offers curated travel packages across destinations including Maldives, Bali, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, and Europe. The company also organizes domestic travel experiences to destinations such as Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Manali, and Kashmir.
Celebrity Travel Experiences and Industry Recognition
TheTourist360 has gained significant visibility through collaborations with celebrities and digital creators across South India. Actress and influencer Anitha Sampath hosted three Maldives group tours with the company, bringing together 100 travelers between 2024 and 2026.
The company has also collaborated with personalities such as actress Samyuktha Shan, former Indian cricketer Anirudha Srikanth, and numerous travel creators and vloggers across India and international Tamil communities.
Kalaiarasan’s entrepreneurial journey has received notable recognition. He was honored with the Tourism Business Icon 2025 Award, while TheTourist360 was named the Most Trusted Travel Company of South India 2025. His success story was featured in The Hindu Tamil digital media and telecast on major Tamil news channels, including Sathiyam News and News 24×7.
With a growing team of more than 20 professionals and an expanding network of global travel partnerships, TheTourist360 continues to build immersive travel experiences for modern explorers.
Kalai Maldives’ journey proves that resilience, vision, and the courage to pursue opportunity can turn even the most challenging beginnings into remarkable success stories.
