As exam results season brings report cards into focus across households, renowned education consultancy firm eduVelocity is urging parents to rethink a familiar question: Do marks truly reflect a child’s potential? Through an upcoming workshop, the organisation aims to help families understand how children’s strengths, interests, and motivations often extend far beyond numbers printed on a report card.

In many homes, academic scores remain the primary yardstick for measuring success. But educators increasingly emphasise that grades alone rarely capture the full picture of a child’s abilities. Curiosity, creativity, problem-solving and individual interests often play a far greater role in shaping long-term growth.

This interactive virtual workshop on March 29 at 12:30 PM, where parents will be guided in identifying their child’s natural strengths and in supporting them without adding unnecessary academic pressure, will include insights from Ms. Abhilasha Shaw, Principal of Delhi Public School Jodhpur, who will join the panel discussion with parents. She is recognised for her contributions to curriculum development, student mentoring, and school administration, and has earned numerous honors, including the National Award for Principals and recognition from the British Council.

The session is designed to address common questions many parents quietly grapple with. What is my child truly good at? What motivates them to learn and explore? And how can parents guide their children in the right direction while maintaining confidence and emotional well-being?

eduVelocity’s education experts associated with the initiative say that each child learns differently and develops skills at a unique pace. While some students excel in traditional academics, others demonstrate strong abilities in creativity, leadership, innovation or problem-solving. Recognising these strengths early can help children build confidence and make more informed academic and career choices.

“Parents often want to support their children but may not always know how to identify their natural abilities. The goal of this workshop is to help parents understand their child’s learning patterns and provide them with the tools to nurture their potential,” said Ms. Shruti Maharaj, who leads the Parent Workshop initiative at eduVelocity

The initiative reflects a growing shift in global education trends. Universities and employers today increasingly value holistic development, including critical thinking, adaptability, and creativity, alongside academic achievement. For students planning their academic journeys, especially those exploring international education opportunities, these skills have become essential.

eduVelocity works closely with students and families to provide mentorship and global education guidance, helping them align academic choices with personal interests and long-term aspirations. Through counselling sessions, workshops and advisory programmes, the organisation aims to equip both parents and students with the knowledge needed to navigate today’s evolving education landscape.

The upcoming workshop forms part of eduVelocity’s broader effort to encourage a healthier approach to learning and career planning. By shifting the conversation from grades to growth, the initiative hopes to help parents create an environment where children feel confident in discovering their unique abilities.

As report cards continue to dominate conversations during exam season, eduVelocity’s message is simple but powerful: a child’s future cannot always be measured by marks alone.

Sometimes, the most important step parents can take is to look beyond the report card and recognise the strengths that truly define their child’s potential.
