Bomb Threat at Ahmedabad Metropolitan Court Triggers Evacuation

Ahmedabad | Gujarat — Panic gripped the busy court district of Ahmedabad on Thursday after a bomb threat was reported at the Ahmedabad Metropolitan Court, prompting authorities to evacuate the entire building and launch a massive security operation.

The threat, received on March 12, led to an immediate response from police and emergency services. Three fire department vehicles were rushed to the court complex at Ghee Kanta while bomb disposal and dog squad teams were deployed to carry out a detailed search of the premises.

Officials said the entire court building was cleared of staff, lawyers, litigants and visitors as a precautionary measure. Court departments operating from the nearby Apna Bazaar were also evacuated to ensure public safety.

According to police, the alert triggered a tense atmosphere in the densely crowded area as authorities cordoned off sections of the court complex and began checking the premises.

“This is the first time that the metropolitan court at Ghee Kanta has received a bomb threat,” said Bharat Rathod. “All individuals present inside the building have been safely evacuated and intensive checking is currently underway.”

Security personnel conducted a room-by-room inspection using explosive detection equipment and sniffer dogs. Police teams also began tracing the origin of the threat while monitoring communication channels and reviewing surveillance footage in and around the court premises.

Until now, bomb threats in the city had primarily targeted the Gujarat High Court and certain rural court facilities. Thursday’s incident marks the first such threat directed specifically at the metropolitan court complex in the city’s central legal district.

The sudden evacuation caused temporary disruption to court proceedings and heavy movement of emergency vehicles in the surrounding area. Authorities urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.

Police officials confirmed that the search operation would continue until the entire complex is declared safe. Further details are expected once the verification process is completed and investigators trace the source of the threat.
