Gandhinagar | Gujarat — The Gujarat government has invited urban planners to prepare the master plan for the five satellite towns.  For this, the work of appointing urban planners through tender has been started. By the year 2030, these cities would be planned to be economically empowered by developing facilities similar to metro cities, so that the burden on big cities can be reduced.

With the aim of realizing the mantra of ‘Earning Well-Living Well’ in the year 2025, the state government decided to develop Sanand near Ahmedabad, Savli near Vadodara, Kalol near Gandhinagar, Bardoli near Surat and Hirasar near Rajkot as ‘satellite towns’. The state government has submitted a proposal and invited urban planners with national and international experience to prepare the master plan. A consultant will be appointed in the next two months, who will prepare and submit a master plan for the cities within a year.

What is a satellite town?

A satellite town is a city located near a big city or metropolis and can be reached within an hour from a big city. The aim is to identify such cities and make them economically vibrant centers, so that the burden on big cities is reduced and new employment opportunities open up in these cities. World-class infrastructure and citizen-centric facilities will be developed in these cities.

Facilities related to transport, industries, tourism, education and health will be developed in these five cities along with master town planning.

Facilities to be developed in Satellite Town

The Satellite Town will have state-of-the-art infrastructure, well-organized public transport facilities (with electric bus facilities), high-quality infrastructure for water supply and waste management, ring road, urban forest park, beautiful lake, model fire station and mixed use infrastructure (offices, houses, shops all nearby). An approval and monitoring committee has been formed to expedite the implementation of these facilities.
