Surat | Gujarat — Surat police have arrested the principal of a government school in Mandvi taluka under Gujarat government’s anti-conversion law. According to the victim’s complaint, Dr. Ankit Chaudhary, son of the principal, raped the victim for 2 years on the pretense of marriage and later refused to marry her. Principal Ramji Chaudhary, who converted the rape victim, has been sent to 5-day police remand by the court.

A complaint was lodged against Ankit Chaudhary in Mandvi police station of Surat district. When the police were interrogating the victim, the victim told Dr. Ankit Chaudhary’s father Ramji Chaudhary, who is the principal of a government school, had converted her to Christianity. The police were also shocked by the revelations of the victim. In the police investigation, the allegation of the victim was found to be true and the government school principal was arrested by the police.

Forced to adopt Christianity

Surat District SP Rajesh Garhia said that a complaint of rape was filed in Mandvi talukal of the Surat district on May 2025. The victim had complained that she was raped by the accused on the pretense of marriage for two years. The accused doctor Ankit Chaudhary was arrested by the police. During the investigation, the victim made a shocking revelation that Dr. Ankit Chaudhary’s father, Ramji Bhai Chaudhary, who is the principal of a government school in Mandvi village, had converted her to Christianity. The victim said that they were going to convert her whole family by luring them.

Accused principal arrested

SP Rajesh Garhia said that considering the seriousness of the incident, the police had handed over the investigation to the Deputy SP. During the investigation, the allegations made by the victim to the police were found to be true. Ramji Chaudhary was taken by the police to the court under the Gujarat Freedom of Religion Act 2021. The police immediately arrested the accused Ramji Chaudhary, principal of the government school.

Information given to Education Department

SP Rajesh Gadhia said that Ramji Chaudhary is the principal of the school in Pipalwada village of Mandvi. Despite being the principal of a government school, he violated the law and converted the victim’s religion. This has been reported to the education department of the government, who will take strict action against the principal at the government level.

A major revelation in the preliminary investigation

Despite being the principal of a government school, principal Ramji Chaudhary also ran and headed a charitable trust named PRE Ever Lasting Life, which was registered in 2014 with the office of the Charity Commission. Now the police are also investigating whether he was doing any illegal business in the name of the trust. In the name of charitable trust, were the tribals in the area converted. The police are now also investigating the other 11 members of the trust.
