Ahmedabad | Gujarat —  Leaders of the Modi samaj held a demonstration against Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani for his derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narenddra Modi at Sundhia village of Vadnagar on Monday. The Modi samaj leaders submitted a memorandum to the district collector of Ahmedabad demanding strict penal action against Mevani.

Anger is brewing amongst the Modi samaj in Gujarat following the derogatory statement against PM Modi by the Congress MLA.  They said that Mevani has no existence against Modi. If his masters have surrendered to Modi, then what will happen to Mevani?. They also demanded that Mevani should apologize publicly. And also warned him not to indulge in such eloquence in the future.

Mumbai-Pune Modi Samaj President Jayantibhai Modi said that politics is a different matter, but PM Modi belongs to our community,  to our village, and to our holy land, and we are proud of him. Today, the party has nothing to do with it. But when Jignesh Mevani indulged in vulgar language in Sundhia village near the holy land of Vadnagar, using vulgar words, exceeding the limits of words and language, we, the members of the Modi community, strongly oppose these words and his bad language.

‘Mevani should publicly apologize’

“Mevani’s bosses are in Mumbai-Delhi, they have also surrendered to Narendra Modi, so we publicly refute the rhetoric that Jignesh Mevani, an MLA, makes in Sundhia village and we also demand that he publicly apologize. We have come to the collector’s office with 25-30 youths to protest against it” said Modi.

‘Using indecent words about the Prime Minister is not appropriate’

Modi Samaj spokesperson Nirav Modi said that you must have also seen the video through social media. Jignesh Mevani is a Congress MLA who used indecent words about Narendra Modi in a public meeting in Sundhia village, Vadnagar on November 30. Narendra Modi is the pride of our society, we are proud of him, it is not appropriate to use such words about him.

‘There is freedom of speech in a democracy but there should be limits to it’

He further said that, in a democracy there is freedom of speech but that does not mean that we can use it anywhere for everyone. There should be a limit for everyone which they have crossed, which makes us very angry. We could have expressed this anger by coming in public but today we, 15 to 20 members-leaders, have come forward peacefully and have protested and submitted a petition to the Collector.

Earlier, in the Modi surname defamation case, the lower court of Surat had sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in prison and a fine of Rs.15,000. After that, Rahul Gandhi challenged the Surat court’s verdict in the Gujarat High Court. Judge Hemant Prachhak pronounced the verdict and rejected Rahul Gandhi’s application. Hence, Rahul Gandhi’s two-year sentence has remained unchanged.

Purnesh Modi files caveat in the Supreme Court before Rahul Gandhi

An unexpected turn took place in the Modi surname defamation case. The complainant surat BJP MLA Purnesh Modi reached the Supreme Court. Purnesh Modi filed a caveat in the Supreme Court and submitted that before the court hears Rahul Gandhi, he should also be given a chance to be heard. The Gujarat High Court refused to stay the two-year sentence given by the lower court in the ‘Modi surname’ defamation case. The High Court rejected Rahul Gandhi’s petition, considering the decision of the lower court correct. A lower court in Surat had convicted Rahul Gandhi for his statement on the ‘Modi surname’ during a rally in Karnataka during the 2019 elections. Following this decision, Gandhi was disqualified from being a member of Parliament under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act.
