Surat | Gujarat — The Central Government has abolished the QCO order on key raw materials of MMF Textiles, bringing immense relief to entrepreneurs across the country, including Surat.

The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) said that the Ministry of Chemicals of the Government of India had implemented the QCO order on key raw materials of MMF Textiles, PTA and MEG, from July 2023. After that, the QCO order was also implemented on all FDY, POY, IDY and PSF of polyester yarn from October 2023. After the implementation of the QCO order, it was mandatory for only those who had BIS certification to sell these materials in India. Due to this, the import of key raw materials of MMF Textiles in India was completely stopped. Due to which there was a shortage of many specialty yarns in India. Especially the production of special lifestyle fabrics had become negligible.

To address this situation, textile associations across India including The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, FIASC, FOGWA, CITI (New Delhi), CII were represented to the Central Government. Meetings were held by the Chamber of Commerce and various organizations in the Ministry of Chemicals, Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of MSME and NITI Aayog of the Central Government.

Meanwhile, on November 12, 2025, the Government of India removed all QCO orders for MMF Textiles’ key raw materials MEG and PTA and POY (Polyester Partially Oriented Yarn), FDY (Polyester Continuous Filament – Fully Drawn Yarn), IDY (Polyester Industrial Yarn), PSF (Polyester Staple Fibre), due to which the cost of textile production in India will now be reduced and industrialists will increase exports from India by producing export-oriented fabrics.

Now industrialists will be able to bring key raw materials of MMF Textiles from every corner of the world and make finished goods in Surat and in India itself. While 60 percent of the total production of MMF textiles in the country is produced in Surat alone, the abolition of the QCO order has brought great relief to the textile entrepreneurs of Surat, for which the office bearers of the chamber and office bearers of various organizations thanked the Government of India.

Under the leadership of the SGCCI president Nikhil Madrasi, and vice-president Ashok Jirawala, along with former SGCCI president Vijay Mewawala, chairman of FIASWI and former President of the Chamber, Bharatbhai Gandhi, Former President of the Chamber and Chairman of the Chamber’s Textile Task Force Committee,  Ashish Gujarati and Advisor to the Chamber’s Textile Knitting Committee, Brijesh Gondaliya, started a round of representations in New Delhi. The hard work of all of them has paid off and as a result of continuous representations, the Government of India abolished QCO from the key raw materials of MMF Textiles on Wednesday.
