Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar | Gujarat — The notorious psycho killer Vipul Parmar, arrested in a sensational robbery-murder case near Ambapur Narmada Canal close to Gandhinagar, was shot dead in a police encounter on Wednesday evening. The encounter unfolded dramatically when the accused attempted to snatch a police officer’s weapon and fired at the escorting team during a crime scene reconstruction.

According to Gandhinagar police officials, Parmar was being taken by the Local Crime Branch (LCB) to the Narmada Canal area for a panchnama and scene recreation. “While sitting in the police vehicle, he suddenly attacked a sub-inspector, tried to grab his firearm, and managed to fire a shot at the police. In the heat of the moment, the team retaliated in self-defense,” said a senior LCB officer.

The encounter ended fatally for Parmar, who sustained seven bullet injuries. Preliminary postmortem reports revealed gunshot wounds on his chest, arm, and bladder. Medical teams used X-ray imaging to trace the bullet locations and confirm the cause of death.

Postmortem and Forensic Scrutiny

The police, along with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, conducted an extensive panchnama at the crime scene. Officials confirmed that the sequence of events matched the police version of the accused attempting to escape while endangering the officers’ lives.

A police spokesperson added, “Every step is being documented as per legal requirements. We are committed to transparency in this case.”

Report to Human Rights Commission

As per protocol, the Gandhinagar Police will submit a detailed report of the encounter to the State and National Human Rights Commissions within 24 hours. The move is mandatory in all police firing incidents leading to death.

“The human rights commission will be apprised of the exact circumstances of the encounter, the weapon recovery, and the medical reports,” confirmed a senior official.

Family Refuses to Claim Body

In a dramatic twist, the family of the deceased refused to accept his body. Sources indicated that Parmar’s notoriety and criminal background could have influenced their decision. Following procedure, authorities have kept the body in cold storage until further directions are received.

Public Reaction and Legal Oversight

The encounter has sparked debates in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, with some hailing it as a justified police action to protect lives, while others raised questions about due process. Civil rights groups are expected to monitor the Human Rights Commission’s response closely.

Meanwhile, senior police officers emphasized that the encounter was unavoidable. “Our officers were under direct threat. The accused opened fire first. In such situations, police action in self-defense is both lawful and necessary,” said a Gandhinagar police official.
