Ahmedabad | Gujarat — A horrifying act of domestic violence shook Sardarnagar’s Kubernagar area on Tuesday night when a man set his wife and mother-in-law ablaze inside a beauty parlor, triggering panic in the bustling Azad Chowk market.

According to eyewitnesses, smoke and screams engulfed the parlor as locals rushed to the scene. They discovered that the husband, identified as Ashok Rajput, had attacked his wife and mother-in-law with a flammable substance before fleeing. Both women were immediately shifted to Civil Hospital with severe burn injuries.

“The women were screaming in pain when we reached. We poured water to douse the flames and rushed them to the hospital. The entire market was in shock,” said Rajesh Patel, a shopkeeper in the complex.

Domestic Dispute Turns Deadly

Police sources confirmed that Rajput had been in constant conflict with his wife for the past several months. On the night of the incident, he stormed into her beauty parlor and started an argument. Matters escalated when his mother-in-law intervened, leading him to carry out the brutal act.

“Initial investigation reveals it was a premeditated attack fueled by domestic disputes. He used a flammable liquid and attempted to kill both women. Thankfully, they survived and are under medical care,” said PI Mahipatsinh Champawat of Sardarnagar Police Station.

Accused Arrested

After fleeing the scene, Rajput was later tracked down and arrested by Sardarnagar police. Authorities confirmed that a case has been registered against him for attempted murder and domestic violence.

“Such violent crimes against women will not be tolerated. The accused has been arrested and will face the strictest legal action,” PI Champawat added.
