Ahmedabad | Gujarat — For the past two months, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have been on a whirlwind tour of Gujarat, inaugurating key development projects and holding closed-door meetings with state BJP leaders. Alongside the official events, the visits have fueled intense speculation over an impending cabinet reshuffle in the Bhupendra Patel government.
Political circles in Gandhinagar have been abuzz with talk of organizational restructuring within the BJP and subsequent changes in the state cabinet. However, the timing remains uncertain.
“Everyone is talking about changes, but no one knows when they will come. The leadership is keeping cards close to its chest,” said a senior BJP functionary.
Navratri Ends Speculation for Now
Earlier, many believed that cabinet changes would be announced either during Navratri or immediately after. But insiders now suggest that no reshuffle is likely in the immediate future.
“The focus right now is on organizational changes in the state BJP. Only after that, the government side will be considered,” said a party insider.
The presence of upcoming local body elections has also made the leadership wary of experimenting with new faces in the cabinet. “The priority is to ensure unity and stability before polls. A reshuffle may unsettle existing equations,” the source added.
Chief Minister’s Delhi Visit Adds Fuel
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel left for Delhi on Monday to attend a pre-scheduled meeting, returning late at night. His trip has only heightened curiosity within political circles about whether the high command will signal any moves in the coming weeks.
“This is the season of political surprises. Whenever CM or senior leaders travel to Delhi, speculation automatically begins,” remarked a political analyst.
CR Paatil’s August Hint
Adding to the buzz is BJP state president CR Paatil’s statement in August, where he openly hinted at an expansion. Speaking at a meeting at Kamalam, Paatil had said: “Whoever gets a place in the cabinet will be fortunate. We will meet soon to discuss this further.”
Paatil’s remarks were followed by a meeting between PM Modi and the Chief Minister at Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar, intensifying the talk of reshuffle.
Party in Wait-and-Watch Mode
While the suspense lingers, political observers say the BJP’s top brass is in no hurry. “The BJP has mastered the art of timing. Changes will come when they suit the party’s strategy, not when speculation peaks,” said Harish Joshi, a political commentator.
