Surat | Gujarat —- one-and-a-half-year-old boy drowned in a water pond at Euphoria Hotel in Pal, Surat, while his parents attended a family party in the banquet hall. The tragedy has raised serious concerns about parental vigilance and safety measures in public places.
According to police, the victim, Krishiv Savaliya, was at the hotel with his father, Vijaybhai Savaliya, a resident of Shubham Residency, Yogi Chowk, along with his mother. The family had come to attend a gathering when the child slipped out unnoticed during the celebrations.
Child Walked Out During Party
While guests were busy at the banquet hall, Krishiv wandered outside and reached a decorative pond located near the banquet entrance. Tragically, he fell into the water and remained submerged for nearly 15 minutes before being discovered.
“A guest sitting outside noticed something unusual in the water and immediately alerted people inside,” said hotel manager Hasanbhai Rabdi. “We rushed to take the child out and handed him to his family, who immediately took him to the hospital. Unfortunately, the doctors declared him dead on arrival.”
Panic and Shock Among Guests
Guests present at the party recalled the confusion when the child went missing. “We thought he was playing somewhere in the hall, but when someone shouted that a child had been pulled out of the pond, everyone froze in disbelief,” said a family friend who attended the event.
Police confirmed that more than 50 people had gathered at the banquet for a birthday celebration when the incident occurred.
Police Statement on the Tragedy
ACP Deep Vakil said, “The child had gone outside while playing. Being just one and a half years old, he could not swim and drowned in the pond. This tragic incident is a reminder that parents should exercise extreme caution when attending public events with children.”
Parents Warned Against Distraction
The case has sparked conversations on the risks of parental distraction due to socialising or mobile phone use. Experts stress that young children must be under constant supervision, especially in unfamiliar or potentially hazardous environments.
“Most of the time, at parties or gatherings, parents get lost in conversations or on their phones. Small children wander off, sometimes into dangerous places. That is what happened here. Parents must be vigilant at all times when they are outside with their children,” said a child safety counsellor in Surat.
A Painful Reminder
The drowning of young Krishiv has left the family and community devastated. While police are conducting further inquiries, the incident serves as a grim warning for parents and hotel managements alike.
As one relative put it: “We came here for a celebration, but it turned into a tragedy we will never forget.”
