Gujarat Sends Relief Train to Punjab Flood Victims

Gandhinagar | Gujarat — Gujarat has continued its tradition of performing disaster dharma to help the needy in times of trouble by standing by the flood-affected people of Punjab.

With the noble intention of meeting the immediate needs of the flood-affected people due to heavy rains in Punjab, various departments like Food Civil Supplies Department, Agriculture Department, Health Department have made arrangements to deliver essential commodities to Punjab through special relief trains under the coordination of the Relief Commissioner’s Office of the Government of Gujarat.

Chief Minister  Bhupendra Patel flagged off this special relief train from Gandhinagar Railway Station carrying essential commodities like flour, onion, potato, rice, groundnut oil, sugar and milk powder, totaling 400 tonnes of food items, 10,000 pieces of tarpaulin, 10,000 mosquito nets, 10,000 bed sheets and 70 tonnes of medicines.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has also sent cheques of Rs. 5 crore each from Gujarat to the Chief Ministers of those states for the relief of the flood-affected people of Punjab and Chhattisgarh.

Spokesperson Minister Rushikesh Pate said a train with various relief materials for the flood-affected areas of Punjab has been sent from Gandhinagar Railway Station by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Various items ranging from wheat to clothes have been included in this train with 22 wagons. Apart from this, approximately 8,000 relief kits of daily necessities have also been sent to the affected areas of Chhattisgarh.

Patel added that the Chief Minister will also visit the rain-affected areas of Banaskantha district along with the Assembly Speaker Shankarbhai Chaudhary and the in-charge ministers to review the work of the district administration and provide necessary guidance.

When the Chief Minister flagged off this special relief train, Food Supply Minister  Kunwarji Bavlia, Minister of State for Home Affairs and Minister in-charge of Gandhinagar District Harsh Sanghvi, Mayor of Gandhinagar Miraben Patel, MLA  Rita Ben Patel, Food Supply Principal Secretary  Mona Khandhar, Relief Commissioner Alok Pandey, DRM of Railways and senior officers and officials of the railway administration as well as the state were present.
