Bharuch | Gujarat —  In a major development that has sent shockwaves through Gujarat’s political circles, the court has rejected the anticipatory bail application of Dilip Vasava, son of former Jhagdia MLA Chhotu Vasava, in the sensational Shiali murder case. The case revolves around the killing of the sarpanch’s husband in Shiali village of Jhagdia taluka, who was crushed under the wheels of a truck on August 13.

Chhotu Vasava is the former chief of the Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP) and a big figure in the tribal belt of South Gujarat.

Initially treated as an accident, the incident took a grim turn when police investigations revealed it was a pre-planned murder. Three accused were arrested, and their interrogation exposed Dilip Vasava’s alleged involvement in the conspiracy.

According to investigators, the motive stemmed from information the victim had sought through an RTI application, which threatened to create trouble for powerful individuals. “This was not a road accident. It was a conspiracy executed to silence the applicant,” a police officer said on condition of anonymity.

Faced with the possibility of arrest, Dilip Vasava moved the court seeking anticipatory bail. However, Chief Public Prosecutor P.B. Pandya strongly opposed the plea, arguing that granting relief could hamper the ongoing investigation. The court sided with the prosecution and rejected the bail request.

Legal experts view the order as a significant step in ensuring justice. “The court’s decision sends a strong message that no one, regardless of political lineage, can escape the law when accused of a serious crime like murder,” said a senior lawyer from Bharuch.

The case has also sparked intense political debate, given the stature of Chhotu Vasava, a veteran tribal leader from Jhagdia. Opposition leaders have called for an impartial probe, emphasizing that justice must prevail over political influence.

Meanwhile, residents of Shiali remain stunned by the revelations. “We never thought the accident was actually a murder. The truth has shaken the entire village,” said a local villager, highlighting the fear that has gripped the community.
